Song of the Day: ‘Borussia Ladies!’ sung to the tune of the ‘I Love You Baby’ section of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”.
TBF it was the only song. Too cold.
POTM: the ref, for officiating the whole game with no gloves. Jeez.
Today’s game has been moved from to August Bier Platz, ie one of the pitches at the Olympia Park (but not the Olympic Stadium itself). Presumably because of the freezing weather here in January (but I’m not sure).
The Olympic Stadium (and the surrounding Olympia Park) was, of course, built for the 1936 Berlin Olympics, and it looks..like you think it would look. As the official Wikipedia page for the Olympia Park states, somewhat coyly:
“…the Olympic Park illustrates how the Olympic Games can be instrumentalized by a precisely planned architectural language of their buildings in the propaganda of the political rulers.”

Anyway, you have to walk around the Olympic Stadium & past the Schwimmstadion to get to August Bier Platz – which features a couple of artificial pitches and is named after the German surgeon who pioneered spinal anaesthesia.

Today’s game sees 6th play 11th in the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga.

This is my first Women’s game in Germany, and, having no affiliations, I am choosing to support Viktoria – partly because I like the shirt, but also the website, which kicks off with the motto:
“WE ARE INDEPENDENT AND NOT A SECONDARY TEAM TO THE MEN. OUR GOAL, BEYOND SPORTING SUCCESS, IS TO DRIVE CHANGE IN GERMAN FOOTBALL AND HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON OUR SOCIETY.”
