Kaltenberg Schloss-Keller naturtrüb.
5.1% ABV.
Tasted at : Berliner Republik, Schiffbauerdamm 8, Berlin.
‘Kellerbier’ is one of a group of terms used in Germany to describe varieties of unfiltered lager (ie ‘naturtrüb’ or ‘naturally cloudy’).
This is a particularly fruity & yeasty example (the cloudiness is, of course, yeast) – a lovely hazy golden colour but not exactly bouncing out of the box in terms of flavour. In other words, slightly more like a regular filtered lager than most Kellerbiers, in taste if not in appearance. Which is fine.
Due to the general atmosphere of bonhomie, the presence of a vegan Bratwurst and football on the TV (Darmstadt vs Hertha) this beer is receiving a more than solid 4/5.
